My Picks: Best Aventon E-Bikes for Commuting

I recently wrote about why you should consider buying an Aventon e-Bike and there are 7 models in the brand’s current fleet. Technically speaking, you could ride your commute on any style of bike, but I think there are certain models that are especially fit for the job.

If you’re expecting a piping hot take, this probably isn’t the article for you— my lukewarm take for best commuter model is a logical one that most riders would agree with. Call me boring, but at least I think I’m right!

1. Aventon Level: Best Commuter

Aventon Level commuter electric bike

It should be of no surprise that my top pick for a commuter e-Bike is Aventon’s dedicated commuter model. Aventon’s design and R&D teams know what they’re doing when it comes to creating a practical commuter, and the Level hits all the right notes. It’s a robust electric city bike with 27.5 x 2.1” tires and front suspension ready to soak up road buzz and pesky potholes. There are also classic commuter hallmarks such as fenders, a rear rack, and integrated lights. One big plus are the built-in turn signals for better communication with those sharing the road with you.

The latest second generation Level includes a torque sensor for smoother acceleration from the 500W rear hub motor. The Class 2 designation means the Level’s top speed clocks in at 20 mph and there’s a throttle mode. The comfortable and practical Level is designed specifically for commuting and it shows, claiming its rightful spot at the top of my list.

2. Aventon Abound: Utility e-Bike

If you require additional cargo-carrying abilities, the Aventon Abound is the right choice to fly across town. Aventon just recently launched the newer Abound SR model with anti-theft features and updated stem design. The Abound is a utility e-Bike, meaning it's a compact version of a traditional cargo e-Bike. The electric bike is more agile while still providing tons of space to carry stuff on the extended rear rack.

Commuters can adapt the Abound to their needs with the range of cargo accessories, including a front basket, rear passenger pad, panniers, footpegs, and rear basket. This model can be a great choice for families to drop kids off at school or city-goers who need extra space on their e-Bike.

3. Aventon Pace: All-Rounder

The model that started it all, the Pace 500 was Aventon’s very first e-Bike. It embraces a kind of comfort-oriented hybrid design— I like to describe it as Aventon’s city all-rounder. There’s an upright frame shape for easy cruising, but the medium-width tires offer grip and speed over smooth surfaces like bike paths and streets.

The zippy 500W rear hub motor makes the Pace a powerful, easy-to-use hybrid e-Bike with up to 60 miles of range. This model can be outfitted with fenders and a rear rack, too. If you are seeking a bit more comfort on your daily ride, the Pace delivers.

4. Aventon Soltera: Lightweight e-Bike

The Soltera is Aventon’s lightest electric bike. For a perfect mix of urban style and quick handling, the Soltera soars through the streets. I tested the Soltera a while back and was surprised by its smooth pedal assistance and responsive maneuverability, especially for such an affordable e-Bike. The newest version has integrated turn signals. For the chic commuters out there, its hidden 350W rear hub motor and slim battery give the Soltera additional style points in the city.

5. Aventon Sinch: Folding e-Bike

I mean just look at those gorgeous tanwall tires. Other than being a work of art, the aesthetic Aventon Sinch is a folding e-Bike for those who need that extra functionality. It folds at the center and along the steerer tube to save space at home or at the office. The large tires and heavy weight of the bike means it’s not for carrying on the metro or upstairs, but the foldability can come in handy for many riders. It also comes with fenders and a rear rack.

Honorable mentions  include the Aventon Ramblas and Aventure models, but they are more suited to all-terrain and mountain bike riding than commuting. They round out Aventon’s versatile 7-model fleet which they are constantly upgrading and tweaking with new model generations.

Key Takeaways

  1. Best for Commuting: The Aventon Level is the top pick with practical features like built-in turn signals, a rear rack, and smooth acceleration.
  2. Specialized Options: The Abound handles cargo needs, while the Soltera is lightweight and stylish for urban riders.
  3. Diverse Choices: From the flagship Pace to the folding Sinch, Aventon offers models for various commuting styles.
