Intake &
Inspection:
Every e-Bike that arrives at an UpCenter goes through a standardized 50-point inspection: brakes, motor response, wiring, firmware, and frame integrity are all tested against documented thresholds. Anything that doesn't meet spec is repaired, replaced, or rejected — no exceptions — and only OEM-approved parts, batteries, and chargers are used.

Technician Training &
Certification:
Every technician completes structured onboarding and certification before handling a battery, plus annual refreshers as safety standards evolve. Battery testing and handling follow documented protocols, not shortcuts.

Warranty:
Every bike ships with a 1-year warranty — inspection date, technician sign-off, and any parts replaced — so you know exactly what your bike went through before it reached you.

Education:
A safe bike still needs a safe rider. That's why we offer Safe Start, a free e-Bike safety course, to anyone in the U.S. — Upway customer or not. Built with a certified instructor, it makes sure every rider knows the basics, and the importance of riding responsibly, before they get on the road.
Buying a Street-Legal E-Bike? Read This First.
- Speed: ≤28 mph clearly labeled Class 1, 2, or 3
- Motor: ≤750W higher-powered models may be e-motos or mopeds requiring DMV registration
- Pedals: Must have fully operable pedals, pedal-less vehicles aren’t e-Bikes and may be impounded

Class 2

Pedal-assist only, up to 28 mph
All three classes are capped at 750 watts, and none require a license, registration, or insurance in most states.
Anything faster or more powerful than that is legally a moped or motorcycle, regardless of how it's marketed. If a listing doesn't say which class a bike is, that's a red flag, not an oversight.
