Where are Aventon bikes made?

Aventon has established a great reputation in the US electric bike market over the last five years, but it has been in business even longer than that. The brand is known for making bikes that are fun to ride, setting out its stall with the simple maxim 'Ride more. Be happy.' Aventon also enjoys a reputation for quality and robust construction, even being featured in our list of best e-bikes for heavier riders

But despite this excellent rep, you might still be wondering about the origin of the brand, and where Aventon bikes are made. Read on to find out!

Where are Aventon electric bikes manufactured?

Aventon is an American electric bike brand, based in California. The constituent parts of their bikes are manufactured in China, before being shipped to the USA where they are inspected and assembled. They're then shipped out to bike shops around North America, or can be purchased directly from Aventon on the brand's website. It's not uncommon in the bike industry for some or all of the manufacturing to take place in Asia. Indeed, most of the best bike brands in the USA do this because of the highly competitive costs of Far Eastern factories, and this applies to both e-bikes and standard bikes.

The founder of Aventon, JW Zhang, told Forbes about his motivation for founding the brand in 2021: “Bicycles have been around for more than 100 years, but they are both close to and far from people. Everyone knows what a bicycle is, but many of them haven’t really touched a bike for a long time. They think of bicycling as traditional and boring. And road and mountain bikers have gotten snobby and intimidating to the average rider – not inclusive.”

Zhang also discussed the potential for a manufacturing plant in California, which he said would be "highly automated" and might even have the potential to compete with Chinese manufacturing.  So it's possible that Aventon bikes may one day be made and  assembled entirely in the USA.

Has Aventon always made e-bikes?

Actually, no! The brand started its life as a fixie brand being ridden by couriers on city streets, making track bikes with only one speed and on which the rider would brake by pushing backwards against the pedals. Aventon rose to prominence on the fast-paced and exciting fixed-gear racing scene, before deciding to pivot to electric bikes in 2018.

Aventon says this change in its business model was due to a desire to increase access to the amazing mobility of electric bikes, reaching more people who would otherwise not ride a bike.
