What’s The Trek Checkpoint Like To Ride?
The Checkpoint+ is a really interesting bike to ride. It’s a fantastic mix of performance, comfort, and versatility. It’s exactly what a lot of people look for in a bike, and I am fairly impressed myself.
Comfort
The comfort is the first point to make. The larger tires, when set at the right PSI, just help the bike roll over everything. It’s got a lovely, relaxed geometry that gives a much more upright riding position compared to a road bike, and it feels stable without being sluggish.
Performance
The bike is very light. Coming in between 13.5kg and 15kg for an electric bike, it’s wonderful. Not only does it feel agile, but it’s not hard to lug around when going for a hike-a-bike. The acceleration is good, and it all feels very natural, not punchy.
Versatility
The bike has a lot more ability than I first thought. It’s got a nice feel, and for someone who has ridden many gravel bikes, it offers a certain confidence I don’t get from many others. It’s good on- and off-road, but it's important to know it’s not e-MTB capable on technical terrain.

What’s The Motor And Battery Like On The Checkpoint?
The motor and battery definitely deserve their own section. Unlike many e-Bikes, which make it all about power and range, the Trek Checkpoint doesn’t. It’s not a motor with a bike. It’s a bike with a motor.
It’s from a company called TQ, which specializes in light, efficient motors. It offers 60 Nm of torque and is entirely pedal-assisted, making it feel like you are just an incredibly strong cyclist.
They say that, depending on the terrain, it offers between 40 and 80 miles. I would take this with a pinch of salt, as there are many variables. I would say 30 to 60 to be realistic. It’s still a lot of range and will get you to multiple cafes.
Is The Trek Checkpoint Good Value?
The Trek Checkpoint is a premium bike, and there’s no denying that. You are going to be spending between $6,000 and $10,000. You are getting a lot for your money. Not only do you get a carbon frame and the TQ motor, but the components are fantastic. Hydraulic disc brakes, premium wheels, and, on the SL7, even wireless electronic gearing from SRAM.
You are buying a bike to last, not just a year or two. This bike will give you year after year of excellent riding, and the investment is worth it if you can afford it. For many people, it replaces many different bikes in their garages, such as their road and hardtail MTBs.
