Feeling fast and furious? The top speed of an electric bike can be a big selling point but it isn’t always clear at first. If you’re thinking about buying an Aventon e-Bike, you’re on the right track because the popular brand has some of the best models. If you read the fine print, some of Aventon’s models can be unlocked to achieve higher speeds. As Upway’s resident bike industry detective, I’ll walk you through the top speed of each fast electric bike in the Aventon fleet.

How fast do electric bikes go?

Electric bikes are divided into three classes based on their type of motor assistance and top speed:

But that’s not all. Users can change the settings of their electric bikes after receiving the bike. This can include changing the class of the bike and deactivating or removing the throttle. For example, some Aventon models are shipped as Class 2 e-Bikes but can be unlocked to Class 3 levels later on. I had to dive into each of the model’s fine print and technical specifications, but I unraveled the mystery of how fast can an Aventon e-Bike go once and for all.

Ramblas: The only Aventon Class 1 e-Bike

One of the newest additions to the Aventon family is the Ramblas e-MTB. It’s a more premium model designed for electric mountain biking, equipped with a mid-drive motor (a first for Aventon!) and a 130mm RockShox suspension fork.

Like most high-end e-MTBs, the Ramblas is a Class 1 model, meaning it has a top speed of 20 mph and no throttle. Many mountain bike trails limit e-Bike use to Class 1 models to avoid throttled riding and too high of speeds.

The trio of Aventon Class 2 e-Bikes

Most of the Aventon fleet falls into the Class 2 category, meaning both pedal assist and throttle modes max out at 20 mph. The Sinch folding e-Bike, Soltera lightweight bike, and Abound cargo e-Bike can only be ridden as Class 2 e-Bikes. The throttle can also be deactivated for riders who don’t want the throttle or need to remove it according to local riding regulations. These Class 2 models are a great choice for people who want a zippy top speed and the option of a throttle.

Aventon e-Bikes that unlock to Class 3

To unleash your need for speed, some Aventon e-Bikes can be unlocked to reach a top speed of 28 mph. The Aventure, Pace 500, and Level models are all shipped as Class 2 e-Bikes, but can be adjusted to higher speed limits. The process is slightly complicated but can be done quickly via the Aventon app and handlebar controls. Remember that Class 3 e-Bikes are not allowed on all trails and bike paths, so be sure to do your research.
