Gocycle Diagnosis Modes

If an issue arises with your Gocycle electric bike, built-in diagnosis modes can assist in identifying the problem. These are pre-programmed modes that can check the health of the bike sensors, motor, and servo calibration. Connect to the Gocycle app and navigate to “Diagnostics” to perform the checks.

  • Sensor Check: Rotate the rear wheel forward, then rotate the cranks backward. Squeeze both brake levers and stand on the left pedal. Press the left switch to activate the throttle a few times, then shift up and down the gears while pedalling.

  • Motor Test: Press the 'Start' button and lift the Gocycle so that the front wheel is off the ground. Hold the boost button to start the motor test. Apply the front brake gently to load the motor— the motor shouldn’t stop under gentle braking. Press 'Stop' to exit Motor Test Mode.

  • Servo Calibration: Gently hold the rear brake so there is some resistance on the rear wheel, then pedal forward so that the rear wheel rotates. Continue pedalling until you hear the chime— if the bike beeps three times, try again.

Gocycle Battery Error Codes: LED Flashes

Rather than displaying an actual error code or message, Gocycle electric bikes indicate errors on the LEDs of the battery. All 4 LEDs will blink together repeatedly several times to communicate the battery error.

Below are the descriptions and solutions to each battery error code:

3 battery flashes: Voltage is slightly too high

Reset the battery, then leave the lights on or try to shift gears (electronic shifting only) for 30 minutes.

4 battery flashes: voltage is slightly too low

Reset the battery and complete the charger test procedure.

5 battery flashes: Battery is too hot

All the battery to cool and do a reset.

6 battery flashes: Battery is too cold

Bring the bike or battery inside to warm up and then do a reset.

7 battery flashes: Battery is too hot during charging

Allow the battery to cool, reset, then try to charge again.

8 battery flashes: The battery is too cold during charging

Bring the battery inside to warm up, reset, and then try charging again.

9 battery flashes: The chip is overheating

Allow to cool, then try charging or riding again.

12 battery flashes: The electrical current is too high during charging

You may be using an incorrect charger or a faulty charger. Reset, then try again with an official Gocycle charger.

19 battery flashes: Battery voltage is extremely low

Contact Gocycle technical support.

20 battery flashes: Overheating FET discharge

Allow to cool, reset, then go for a ride.

21 battery flashes: Overheating FET charging

Allow to cool, reset, then try to charge again.

22 battery flashes: Advisory warning

Leave the bike and battery for 30 minutes, then try charging or riding again.

If the battery LEDs flash 10, 11, or between 13 and 18 times, contact technical support for assistance.

Beep Codes for Gocycle G4 and G4i

Another way the latest generation of Gocycle electric bikes— the Gocycle G4 and G4i—  informs riders of any issues is through beep codes. Listen closely to identify how many beeps there are to identify the problem.

Once the e-Bike is powered up, one of the following sounds will occur:

  • Chime: This is the normal start-up sound— no action needed.

  • 0 beeps: The motor controller isn’t running. Contact the dealer or Gocycle support.

  • 1 beep: The motor controller is running, but has not received any communication from the dash. Contact the dealer or Gocycle.

  • 3 beeps: The bike has not been registered. The motor assistance will stop in 20 miles unless the bike has been registered.

  • 4 beeps: The bike has not been registered and will not assist until it has been registered.

  • 5 beeps: This indicates the bike’s factory state. The bike needs to be registered.

  • 6 beeps: The motor hall sensor needs to be calibrated. Calibrate the hall sensor by connecting to the Gocycle app and pressing '⋮’.

  • 7 beeps: You need to review the Gocycle app 1-5 stars. After you have completed the review inside the app, the bike will chime on power-up.

  • 9 beeps: This indicates a stolen Gocycle electric bike. Contact Gocycle immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do Gocycle battery LED flashes mean?

They signal battery temperature, voltage, or charging issues. The number of flashes points to the exact problem and the next step.

How do I run diagnostics on a Gocycle e-Bike?

Use the Gocycle app and navigate to Diagnostics to run sensor checks, motor tests, and servo calibration.
Can I ride my Gocycle e-Bike when an error code appears?
Some warnings are advisory and allow limited riding, but critical battery flashes or multiple beep codes may disable motor assistance. When in doubt, stop riding and run diagnostics in the Gocycle app before continuing.

Key Takeaways

  • LED flashes replace traditional error codes: Counting them is the fastest way to diagnose battery issues.
  • The Gocycle app is essential for calibration, diagnostics, and resolving common motor or sensor problems.
