The Different Models Of The Avignon
Before I get into the nitty-gritty of this bike, it’s really good to discuss the different models they have. Currently, Gazelle has 3 different models of the Avignon. The C5, C380, and the C380+. The main difference is that the C5 has a slightly less powerful motor, producing 75 Nm instead of 85 Nm on the C380 and C380+.
You also have a gear upgrade between the models. The C5 has a 5-speed Shimano Nexus gearing setup, the C380 has an Enviolo gearing hub, and the C380+ has the automatic Enviolo hub. They do make the better models more expensive, but they really add to the experience.
What Is Gazelle?
Gazelle is one of the oldest bike brands around and has been in the industry for nearly 130 years. Founded in the Netherlands in 1892, they have extensive experience. They make incredible bikes and focus on perfection within their models.
They focus on commuter and comfort bikes, including Medeo (Everyday Commuter), Arroyo (Comfort Cruiser), The Ultimate (Premium All-Rounder), Eclipse (Long-Distance Step-Through Explorer), and Grenoble (Everyday Comfort Specialist). As you can quickly tell, there’s no interest in racing or extreme riding bikes.
Comfort Features Of The Avignon
The reason the Avignon is so special, in my opinion, is the features that make this bike so incredibly comfortable. Spoiler. It’s not a gel seat. It’s so much more and quite incredible.

- Extra-wide comfort tires and hydraulic disc brakes
- Gel saddle, premium leather grips, and adjustable handlebars
- Smooth Bosch mid-drive motor combined with a belt drive
The result of all this is just a bike that is very comfortable to ride and a really pleasant experience. It’s not challenging like a lot of bikes. It’s simple, smooth, and just really fun to be in the saddle all day.
What Makes The Avignon So Easy
Comfort is one thing that many bike brands can offer, but ease of use is another. A bike that's easy to ride means it’s reliable, requires very little maintenance, is simple to use, and makes you feel like you're one with the bike. Here’s why the Avignon does this so well.
Maintenance
There’s something Gazelle doesn’t do half-heartedly. When it comes to making a bike easy to ride, they pull out all the stops. Gazelle uses a belt drive on the Avignon, which typically only needs replacing about every 10,000km and doesn’t need oil. Even the service intervals are pretty close to that.
Reliability
Gazelle uses Bosch motors on the Avignon. They are incredibly reliable, can be serviced at many bike shops, and have batteries designed to last year after year after year, not just to get past the warranty date.
Simple Riding
Using the C380+ as an example. You have the motor assistance to help you get up to speed, powerful hydraulic disc brakes to help you slow down with minimal grip, and an automatic gearing hub that does all the gears for you. Could it be any easier? Oh wait, it can be intelligent lighting, sat nav options, and a cargo rack.
Power And Range Of The Avignon
The Avignon isn’t about being super powerful or offering high-speed thrills. It’s about assistance and smooth riding. The Bosch motor's torque range is 75 Nm to 85 Nm. This is for a commuter and offers much more than the 50 Nm you normally get, but it’s delivered very smoothly and has a maximum speed of 15mph on a mid-drive system, not a wheel hub system.
The range on the Avignon is one of the best available. They say you can get above 100 miles. With the Bosch motor efficiency and battery options up to 800Wh, I can understand why. I think 100+ miles on any e-Bike would require it to be in perfect condition, but I could see 70-80 miles on a good day.
Is The Avignon Good Value?
The Avignon isn't a budget bike, and honestly, with all its amazing components and features, it can't ever be. Gazelle has not cut corners anywhere, and that does come at a cost. Coming in between $4,000 and $6,500 brand-new, it is a premium product.
Do I think they have good value for money? 100%, I feel that if you invest the money, you are going to get something really incredible. Honestly, as an experienced cyclist and someone who has been around e-Bikes for years, you get what you pay for, and if you buy an Avignon, you will have an incredible experience.
