Cannondale Topstone Neo

Cannondale has long been recognized as one of cycling's premium brands, with an enviable reputation for innovation, engineering and performance across road, gravel and mountain biking.

In this guide, I take a look at the Cannondale electric bike range, covering its city bikes, cargo bikes, hybrids, touring bikes, gravel bikes, road bikes and electric mountain bikes to help you decide which model best suits your riding.

Types of electric bikes in the Cannondale range

What are the Cannondale electric city bike models?

As a premium e-Bike brand aimed at performance-focused riders, I was slightly surprised to see Cannondale enter the city bike market. I just didn't naturally associate them with that.

However, they have brought their engineering expertise into the urban arena and now offer a range of city bikes, including:

  • Treadwell Neo
  • FlyingV
  • Mavaro

They are a little light on entry-level and mid-range options, but you can often find reduced-price Cannondale city bikes through retailers such as Upway.

What are the Cannondale electric cargo bikes?

Cargo bikes are all about power delivery and load balancing, so I was excited to see what a precision engineering and performance bicycle brand could bring to the humble cargo bike.

They have not disappointed with the Cargowagen Neo (long-tail) and the beautifully designed Wonderwagen Neo (front-loader), which honestly makes me wish I had young kids again just so I could justify buying one!

I'd love to test ride one to see how a performance brand like Cannondale has tackled the load-balancing challenges that are common to cargo bikes.

What are the Cannondale hybrids and touring models?

Given that they're closer to their natural rugged-terrain territory, it's not surprising that Cannondale also offers a couple of excellent hybrid and touring options. They seem right at home here, as you would expect, and we have reviewed both the Cannondale Adventure Neo and the Cannondale Tesoro Neo in detail.

These all-rounder bikes can, of course, work well in the city, but they also have the ability to tackle light off-road riding and long-distance weekend touring—particularly the more rugged Tesoro. That makes the naming conventions feel slightly counterintuitive, in my opinion.

If I were looking for a touring bike, I'd be excited to see what Cannondale's obvious off-road expertise could bring to the touring world.

What is the Cannondale Synapse Neo electric road bike?

With pedigree in both performance road bikes and off-road riding, Cannondale is one of the pioneers of the endurance road bike.

The Cannondale Synapse Neo, which we have reviewed in detail, is a beautifully engineered endurance e-road bike based on the iconic Synapse platform. It is designed for long-distance riding on tarmac, cobbles, rough roads and even light gravel thanks to its increasingly generous tire clearance.

What is the Cannondale Topstone Neo gravel bike?

Gravel bikes sit right at the heart of the Cannondale brand, building on its mountain-bike heritage while drawing on decades of road and endurance-bike engineering expertise.

Cannondale has combined all of that knowledge to create the Topstone Neo, which we have also reviewed in detail. It is a fast, premium electric gravel bike based on the conventional Topstone platform. Personally, I also think it makes an excellent winter bike thanks to its wider tires, stable handling and ability to cope with rough roads, potholes and muddy lanes.

What are the Cannondale electric mountain bikes like?

What can I say? This is where it all began. Cannondale was one of the early pioneers of mountain biking and has been producing premium mountain bikes for more than 50 years. That expertise is evident throughout its small but impressive range of electric mountain bikes, which includes the Moterra (reviewed here), Moterra LT (more power and bigger batteries for longer rides), the lightweight Moterra SL and the Habit Neo.

It is admittedly a relatively small range, but given Cannondale's off-road pedigree, you can be fairly confident the company has carefully positioned each model to cover the needs of most riders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cannondale make a folding electric bike?

No. At the time of writing, Cannondale does not offer a folding electric bike. The brand instead focuses on premium performance bikes, including city, gravel, road, cargo, hybrid, touring and mountain bikes.

What motors do Cannondale electric bikes use?

Most Cannondale electric bikes use Bosch mid-drive motors, particularly across the touring, gravel, cargo and mountain-bike ranges. Depending on the model, you'll find Bosch Performance Line, Performance Line Sport, Performance Line CX and other Bosch drive systems designed to suit different riding styles.

Which Cannondale e-Bike is best for commuting?

That depends on your commute. For urban riding, the Treadwell Neo or other city-focused models are excellent choices. If your commute includes rough roads, longer distances or occasional gravel sections, the Adventure Neo or Tesoro Neo may be better options.
