BMC E-Bike Error Codes: Troubleshooting Guide

BMC is probably best known for performance-focused road and mountain bikes, including flagship models like the Teammachine SLR 01. The philosophy behind their regular bikes has crossed over to their electric bikes. BMC electric bikes are designed around efficiency and reliability.

Most current BMC lifestyle and urban electric bikes are built around Bosch eBike systems, which is why the error codes in this guide follow Bosch’s standardized format. Some models use Bosch drive units paired with integrated batteries and a Bosch controller. These systems use an onboard computer that continuously monitors system functions, sensor input, and electrical signals.

But not all BMC e-Bikes use Bosch. Some of their electric road bikes use a different motor platform and will not display Bosch-style error codes. If your bike shows a completely different error message format, it’s likely using a non-Bosch system and requires the correct user manual for that drive unit.

This can save time and help technicians fix problems more quickly.

While some error codes can be cleared without much effort, others require professional support. You should contact a BMC dealer if pedal assist cuts out repeatedly, if battery or drive-unit error codes persist, or if the bike behaves unpredictably.

Bosch-based BMC electric bikes require manufacturer diagnostic tools that are only available through authorized dealers. Configuration errors, communication faults, and internal system issues cannot be resolved at home.

A good maintenance routine reduces the likelihood of recurring error codes. Keep the controller clean and avoid pressure washing near the display, battery mount, or electrical connectors. After riding in wet or dusty conditions, clean your bike and allow it to dry fully before storage.

Battery installation also matters. Always seat the battery carefully and avoid forcing it into place. If you transport your bike on a rack, check that your bike powers on normally and the motor assistance works before starting your ride. How you store your e-Bike battery also makes a difference to error codes and its service life. Avoid storing it in extreme temperatures and ensure it's clean and dry.
