The table will give you a quick insight into which brand is best for you, but I feel it’s worth expanding on bike types, price, motors, ride feel, and support, which we'll do below.

Bike Types: Aventon Vs Specialized

Aventon focuses on four different kinds of bikes: commuter, urban, fat tire, and cargo. Aventon has released a mountain bike, the Aventon Ramblas e-MTB. They are more lifestyle and practical bikes than anything else, with rear racks and step-through frames. If you're looking to carry shopping, commute to work, or go exploring, then these bikes are perfect. Some good examples of their bikes are:

  • Aventon Level – Daily commuter with a strong motor and comfort-first geometry
  • Aventon Aventure – Fat-tyre all-terrain option for mixed surfaces
  • Aventon Soltera – Lightweight urban bike for casual riders
  • Aventon Abound – Practical urban/utility bike with cargo capacity-friendly setup
  • Aventon Ramblas - Mountain bike (New release)

Specialized specializes in performance bikes and heavily niche down into specific categories, far more than Aventon. Mountain, gravel, road, cargo, and urban electric bikes are more of what you can expect. A much wider range and much more focused on cycling for fun, not function.

  • Turbo Vado SL Series – Refined urban/commuter bikes with smooth mid-drive assist
  • Turbo Como – Comfortable, easy-to-ride city e-Bike with relaxed geometry
  • Turbo Creo SL – Lightweight, performance-oriented e-road/gravel bike
  • Turbo Levo / Kenevo – High-performance mountain bike for serious trail riding
  • Specialized Globe Haul ST – Cargo-ready e-Bike for practical hauling

Who Has The Best Motors And Batteries? Aventon Vs Specialized?

Aventon and Specialized use two very different motors, and their designs are completely different. Aventon mainly uses a rear hub-drive motor from Bafang or Shengyi, or, on more modern bikes, its own A100 mid-drive motor. These motors offer good power for hills and a decent battery range even on the cargo bikes.
Specialized uses its own mid-drive motor system designed by German manufacturer Brose. They are part of a tightly integrated ecosystem designed around their bikes and the performance they want. It’s much more fine-tuned and not a general motor, which a lot of brands use. The components, such as the torque sensor, cadence sensors, pedal assist system, hydraulic disc brakes, and even the color display, are just more advanced.
If you are looking for the best ride feel and performance, then the Specialized system is the way forward. If you're looking for something a little more basic, with a more on/off motor feel, the Aventon style is better. All Specialized motors are 250w but Aventon has 500w and more other options.

Is There Much Difference In Ride Feel Between Aventon And Specialized?

In our opinion, there’s a big difference in ride feel between Aventon and Specialized. Specialized makes the electric bike feel like a normal bike with a natural boost. The mid-drive motor and smooth delivery keep it feeling really fun and agile. It offers a very integrated feel.
Aventon makes a bike with a motor attached. Many riders say it feels more torquey. The delivery is there, but it’s not as smooth just feels powerful. It doesn’t feel like typical cycling, it is fun.
If you are a cyclist who has ridden a lot, the feel of the Aventon will be quite alien. The Specialized will feel much more natural and deliver the assistance better.

Who Offers More Support: Aventon Vs Specialized?

Brand support is very important to many consumers. When you buy an Aventon, the direct-to-consumer model is the most common access. They have opened shops since and even have partnered with other stores for customer support.
Specialized is very different. Being available in many shops, you have a support network there to get help. A lot of the time, the bikes are built in-store for you to collect, and troubleshooting and warranty are handled there too.
For better support, a Specialized bike could be the way forward, but Aventon still offers some support as well.

What’s Best For Pricing: Aventon Vs Specialized?

When it comes to pricing, there’s a clear difference not just in what you'll pay, but also in how you'll order the bike. For an Aventon e-Bike, you could pay as little as $1,000 when for a specialized one, it’s around $1,500. The max cost is around $2,000 for Aventon and $10,000 for Specialized.

Why Does Aventon Cost Much Less?

Aventon costs less for many reasons. Firstly, they are direct-to-consumer, so the costs are not passed through a middleman. You will find the technology (Motor, Battery, Components such as Shimano Drivetrain) to be much more basic than Specialized's, and they don’t add extra for future research and development.

Why Does Specialized Charge More For E-Bikes?

Specialized does not do anything by half measure. They make electric bikes with high-end components for performance, keeping them lightweight and excellent in their niche. You are also getting more support from shops, and the models you are buying are fine-tuned with each new release, including improvements in geometry, better cable routing, battery technology, GPS tracking, app interface, and much more.

Should I Spend More?

The cost is relevant to the experience you will get. Aventon may be cheaper, but you don’t get the same ride feel, and you are using much more basic components. If you spend $10,000 with Specialized, it’s going to be completely different from a $1,000 bike from Aventon. We feel there’s always value from both brands.

If you’re looking for amazing value when it comes to buying an e-Bike why not consider Upway. Certified pre-owned bikes with warranty and excellent customer service. Here’s where you can check out the bikes.

Buying a new bike online does offer a great price, but it also lacks customer service. If you are fairly experienced, then this could be the right route. If you are big on the customer experience, it might not be.

Specialized Vs Aventon: Which Is Best For You?

It really comes down to personal preference more than anything. If you want to save money and are looking for something more basic to run around town on, Aventon is likely the way forward. It will give you a good experience and do the job well.
If you are looking for a performance bike with that beautiful natural cycling feel, then the Specialized is the way to go. It just delivers differently and, for the avid cyclists, provides a better experience.
Whatever you choose, there’s amazing value for money from both brands. It comes down to the experience you want from the bike. Feel free to check out the Aventon and Specialized collections or all our bikes.
