Written by: Robbie Ferri | June 6, 2026 Time to read 6 min

Cargo bikes have a reputation for being practical. The Aventon Abound manages something much harder: being practical while still being genuinely fun to ride. Whether you're carrying shopping, children, work equipment, or enough snacks for a small expedition, the Abound promises to replace short car journeys without feeling like you're riding a bus.

An Aventon Abound Close Up
When someone told me years ago I'd be taking my kids to school, doing the shopping, and carrying heavy loads on a bike, I laughed it off as I mounted my incredibly uncomfortable carbon racing bike and rode away in search of a hill to attack.

Now I completely get it, and one bike that really helped convince me is the Aventon Abound. In this article, I want to tell you all about it and why you should not just consider it a recreational bike, but one that could possibly replace a car.

What is Aventon?

Aventon is one of the biggest names in e-Bikes in the US. They have a fantastic reputation and, although very affordable, offer high-quality, premium design. The bikes are very beginner-friendly and incredibly practical, along with some great smart features. They were originally known for urban bikes, but now heavily focus on e-Bikes, such as:

What Is The Aventon Abound?

The Aventon Abound is a cargo bike designed to carry anything from heavy loads to children and more. It’s great value for money, and for many people living in a city, it could very easily replace a car.

Ability & Performance

Let's get started by discussing the ability and performance. There’s no denying this bike is incredibly powerful. With a 750W rear hub motor & battery that delivers a peak power of 1188W and 80Nm of torque on pedal assist, it's got some serious kick when required. You also have a 700Wh+ battery giving 60-70 miles of range, which, in the real world, I'd say will be a little less when used in higher-power modes.

Aside from the motor and battery, you also get hydraulic disc brakes for quick stops, along with front and rear suspension. Although for me this ticks a lot of boxes under the surface, the motor is a rear hub motor, not a mid-drive, which is considered better often, and the gearing to get the bike moving is very basic.

Is The Comfort & Ride Experience Worth It?

Years ago, I would always opt for the sportier options over the more comfortable options. Since getting a little more experienced in my cycling, my ethos has changed. This is another reason why a bike like the Aventon Abound appeals to me. It’s incredibly comfortable, and the pedal assist is fantastic.

If I had to say something, the bike is heavy. The high power and large tires make it easy to ride, but the overall weight makes it difficult to take up stairs, and its length also makes it feel like you're turning a canal boat, unlike a smaller bike. The fenders & rear rack are a nice touch for carrying stuff.

Is The Aventon Abound Good Value?

When it comes to pricing, Aventon is in a good place here. Most cargo e-Bikes are around $3,000 to $4,000, while the Aventon is around $2,000 new or much cheaper reconditioned on Upway. It’s very competitive, and for someone who is on a tight budget, there's a lot of value to be had.

Whenever I see a bike half the price of its competitors, I ask questions to myself why it’s so much less. Here, the biggest cost savings for Aventon are the rear hub motor instead of a mid-drive motor and the very basic gearing.

Smart Features

It’s not often I’m writing a section on ride features, but this bike is packed with them. You will find some standout smart features, including GPS tracking, a motion detector, battery monitoring, remote locking, and your ride stats.

Who Is The Aventon Abound For?

The Aventon isn’t really a recreational bike if you ask me. It can be used as one thing, but it’s much better as a tool to help you in daily life. If you are looking for a bike that can carry loads, is super fun and easy to ride, perfect.

If you are looking for a ride just for cycling and plan to meet up with the roadies and e-MTBers, then this might not be for you. It’s not a sporty bike.

Aventon Abound vs RadWagon 5 vs Lectric XPedition

If you are looking for an alternative bike compared to the Abound, I think they are close to the Rad Wagon 5 and the Lectric XPedition.
