Nestled between Beverly Hills and Baldwin Hills is the upmarket metropolitan area of Beverly Grove. Riding in Beverly Grove is mostly urban, with short distances, on paved roads in tight spaces, and features stop-start traffic. This means a stylish, practical city-focused e-Bike is usually the best option.
E-Bike class options:Class 1 electric bikes are ideal for most riders. They’re permitted on bike paths, beach paths (which are now facing greater restrictions in LA), and roads, and provide enough power for quick acceleration and smooth cruising.
If your riding is mostly on roads and bike lanes and over longer distances, a Class 2 or Class 3 e-Bike is the best option. You can generally go faster on these bikes and keep up with traffic in metropolitan areas, giving you more freedom to use roads and enabling you to reduce commute times.
Electric bike type:City bikes, hybrid e-Bikes, and lightweight commuter bikes tend to work best here. If you’re running errands or transporting kids, a cargo e-Bike makes sense. However, being flanked by two very hilly districts (Beverly Hills and Baldwin Hills), an electric bike with hill-climbing features is highly recommended. Opt for mid-drive-motor bikes as they are better on hills, and ideally choose a bike with 8 gears and plenty of torque, as this will help you up hills. If you are transporting cargo, then a longtail cargo bike handles best on hills.
