What Are The Components Like?
Scott has taken an incredibly sensible approach to components. They have not said, “Let’s go fancy and all singing and dancing.” They have chosen quality, reliable, value-for-money components from Shimano that work and work excellently.
The groupsets are excellent. You get the modern Cues, Alivio, and Deore, offering good climbing ability and very cost-effective servicing when required. The brakes are hydraulic disc brakes, the suspension is from Suntour, and it’s packed with great accessories. Scott has focused on reliability rather than flashy components, as they should with a bike like this.
Motor And Battery
Now for the exciting part. The motor and battery. You might think on a bike like this they would just tick the box with something basic, but they haven’t here. They are using the Bosch Active Line or the Performance Line, depending on the model.
The motor delivers up to 75 Nm of torque, which is fairly powerful for a hybrid bike. You get a mix of different batteries depending on the model. Anything from 400Wh to 800Wh will give you a decent range of around 25-60 miles. On some websites, they claim up to 90 miles, but I just don’t think that’s possible and quite unrealistic.
It’s quiet, uses pedal assistance, and does feel nice and punchy. This is great for getting off at traffic lights and just a really fun all-round ride without it feeling intimidating, which some e-Bikes can.
Is The Scott Sub Ride Comfortable?
I typically wouldn’t discuss comfort in its own section in a review article, but the Scott Sub Active deserves it because they have made a real effort to keep it comfortable.
The soft saddle, upright riding position, light suspension fork, wider tires, and adjustable cockpit do make it easy for long trips. The low-step versions are also excellent, and the bike offers a great ride.
Is The Pricing Fair?
Yeah, 100%. Let’s be honest, the price is the biggest factor for many, and e-Bikes are not cheap. It is more than your cheap unknown brand hybrids, but you get a lot more for your money, such as;
