Premium e-Bike manufacturers Riese & Müller (Germany) and Gazelle (the Netherlands) have developed top models for commuting around town. I’ll compare two of their most popular city electric bikes, the Nevo GT Vario and Medeo T10+, to help you make the right decision.

Motor
As top-of-the-line electric bikes, both models opt for premium Bosch mid-drive motors. The Nevo GT Vario has the Bosch Performance Line CX motor that’s rated at 250W, providing 85 Nm of torque and a top speed of 20 mph.
The Medeo T10+ ups the ante slightly with the Bosch Performance Line Speed motor with 350W of nominal power and the same maximum torque. This motor is capable of assisting up to 28 mph. The motors are largely similar, however, providing up to 340% pedal assistance and pedaling rate assistance of up to 120 rpm (meaning you won’t “spin out” when pedaling fast).
Battery
The comparison gets even tighter regarding the battery because the two models use the same one. Both e-Bikes have a 500Wh Bosch battery that’s neatly integrated inside the downtube for a sleek look. The removable batteries slide out along the underside of the downtube. The Gazelle Medeo T10+ lists its maximum range at 60 miles on a single charge, but the actual number will depend on things like rider weight, assist level, and riding conditions.

Ride feel
The Nevo and Medeo are united by their “still feels like a bike” approach to e-Biking. The smooth Bosch motors offer a measured and fluid boost so you can still enjoy that natural riding sensation of riding a bike, as opposed to being pushed or pulled along by an overpowered hub motor.
The Riese & Müller Nevo GT Vario is a more comfort-oriented model because of the step-thru frame and suspension seat post. And that squishy seat post is one of the nice ones! The approachable design is verging on being an electric cruiser bike and will soak up any road buzz and smooth out bumpy bike paths. The Gazelle model balances comfort and efficiency with a slightly sportier setup.
Components
The devil is in the details, and our two-wheeled protagonists differ significantly further down the specifications list. One of the main differences is the Nevo GT Vario’s belt drive system. The ultra-strong belt is essentially weatherproof and completes smooth shifts via the Enviolo NuVinci Optimized internal hub. The Medeo T10+ has Shimano Deore 10-speed gearing and both models use hydraulic disc brakes.
Price and value
Both models are firmly on the higher end of the price range, ideal for avid cyclists and frequent commuters who will log a lot of miles. The Nevo GT Vario costs more because of the additional upgrades like the belt drive, internal gear hub, and suspension seat post.
