Summer cycling season in Minnesota is worth the wait and surviving those frigid winters— and it just got a whole lot better because of the state’s 2025 e-Bike rebate. The Minnesota Electric-Assisted Bicycle Rebate program reduces the cost by up to $750 for eligible Minnesota residents when purchasing a new e-Bike at approved retailers.

But you have to act fast to get a slice of the action. The application window for the rebate lottery is only open from July 30 to August 7— and there are no current plans for another rebate next year. Here’s all you need to know about the Minnesota e-Bike rebate and how to apply.

How much is the e-Bike rebate?

Minnesota has allocated $2 million for its e-Bike rebate program in 2025. This year, the rebate is worth 75% of the sales price of a new electric bike (including assembly fees, if charged), maxing out at $750. You can also use the rebate on certain accessories at the time of purchase.

Who is eligible?

The Minnesota e-Bike rebate is income-qualified, meaning residents must be under a certain income level or be an individual with a disability to apply. The program specifies that if you received and used an e-Bike Rebate certificate in 2024, you cannot apply again this year.

To qualify under the income limit, your 2024 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) must be less than:

  • $78,000 for married filing jointly
  • $62,000 for head of household
  • $41,000 for all other individuals

In the application, you’ll have to provide personal data as well as tax filing status for 2024 and adjusted gross income for 2024— and information about your disability status if you are disabled.

How to apply

Minnesota Welcome sign
New for this year, the Minnesota electric bike rebate will be awarded via an online lottery. The application period is open from July 30, 2025 at 11:00am and closes August 7, 2025 at 2:00pm

Enter the online portal to apply for the e-Bike rebate. The webpage is experiencing heavy traffic since the application window is closing so soon— and is only open for a week— so you may be placed in a waiting room temporarily. I tested it out recently, but was let in after less than a minute.

Within two weeks of the application period closing, the program will conduct a lottery to randomly allocate the rebate certificates. You’ll be notified if you were selected and approved, denied, or placed on a waitlist. All communications will be sent via email, so be sure to check your inbox.

Recipients can use the rebate on any Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 electric bike from an approved retailer. The e-Bike must have a motor that doesn’t produce more than 750 watts of power. The rebate may also be used to buy the accessories below at the time of purchase:

  • A bike helmet
  • Lights
  • A lock
  • A luggage rack
  • A basket
  • A bag or backpack
  • Fenders
  • Reflective clothing

Rebate recipients have two months to use the rebate certificate. Upway was an approved retailer for the 2024 Minnesota e-Bike rebate program.
