Not all electric mountain bikes are built the same, and when comparing Giant and Bulls, this becomes very obvious. Bulls focus on raw power, aggressive trail performance, and climbing torque. Giant focuses on handling, refined engineering, and traditional bike feel.

Giant & Bulls E-Bikes: Brand Histories

Both Giant and Bulls have very interesting histories, and they're a good place to start. Giant was founded in Taiwan in 1972, and Bulls in Germany in 1995. Giant’s big focus was making bikes for everyone, and soon they didn’t just do that but became a manufacturing powerhouse, making bikes for brands such as Specialized and even Trek.

Bulls wanted to focus on a different market. Performance mountain bikes quickly became their thing, and when they went electric, the Bulls' name really took off. They became known for a very powerful bike with epic torque and off-road ability, and they are still very sought after to this day.

Clearly, we can see that Giant offers a very wide range of bikes and typically makes a bike for each discipline and, to an extent, for every occasion. Bulls has its bikes mainly in mountain bikes, then uses the Cross Lite Evo and Urban Evo to cover other markets.

It’s really important to mention that Giant is very good at dialing in a bike to a discipline when other manufacturers that don’t make the bikes at their own factory do very good all-round bikes. Giant is a much larger brand than Bulls and has been around much longer.

Motors And Battery Systems

When it comes to motors and batteries, this is where the bikes are really taking shape. Giant has its own e-Bike battery systems, and these were designed in conjunction with Yamaha. Bulls, on the other hand, outsources to Bosch for theirs. For the finer details, check out the chart below.

On the surface, they seem very similar, and they perform similarly in certain areas. The little differences do add up, making a big change in the ride feel and the bike's performance.

Ride Feel And Performance

One of the biggest differences between mountain bikes, especially from these brands, is how they feel when riding, and both companies have taken different routes on their electric bikes.

Giant bikes are made to feel smooth and very balanced. The motor engages well, and you feel like you are on a traditional bike, just with the legs of a professional. Combined with the right suspension setups and the Giant comfort and control geometry, this really inspires confidence and a very natural flow.

Bulls are more aggressive. The Bosch motor, although still offering a natural feel, can come across a little punchier than the SyncDrive, which isn’t a bad thing. The bike geometry is a little tighter, giving it an aggressive feel, and it provides great stability on tougher trails.

What About Pricing And Servicing?

Surprisingly, on price, there’s not much difference. Giant does offer more models with budget components, making them look a bit cheaper. If we’re talking mid-level and premium models, there’s not much difference in pricing compared to similar bikes.

There are often better deals to be had with Giant as they are more common and much more popular. The same goes for resale value, but that’s because Giant is just such a big, well-known name.

With the Giant, most servicing can be done at most bike shops, but for anything motor-related, you'd best go to a dealer. The Bulls, using the Bosch motor system, which is on many bikes, makes it easy to get servicing and repairs anywhere.
