There are two different types of Eclipse bikes, and they differ in performance. The C380 HMB is a low-maintenance, more comfortable commuting-touring-style bike with a belt drive, super low maintenance, and a 75 Nm motor.
The Eclipse T11 HMB is a sportier, adventure-style bike with a low-range 11-speed drivetrain and a more powerful 85 Nm motor. The C380 is for the road and light off-road terrain with internal hub gearing—the T11 is for rougher terrain and light trails, though is still not an e-MTB.
Is Gazelle A Good Brand?
Gazelle is an excellent brand. They have been around since 1892 and have always been in the bike industry, not only perfecting proven, basic designs but also introducing new ideas such as the Easyflow. They focus mainly on commuter and lifestyle bikes while using high-quality components.
What Makes The Eclipse Good For Adventure Riding?
The Eclipse is designed for the rider who just wants to get lost and explore. This is tough to do because, with electric bikes, if you make them too capable, you start to lose range and need more power. If they are not capable enough, they become a commuter bike. Finding the middle ground is tough. Here’s what the Eclipse shines:
Motor And Battery
The Eclipse uses a Bosch motor and battery. Not only are they super reliable, but they are powerful and deliver that power well. The whole system is very efficient and, combined with a 750Wh battery, provides an estimated range of nearly 100 miles. Realistically, more likely 70-80 for real-world riding. Using a mid-drive motor rather than a hub motor also really enhances the natural feel.
Note: In the US, it’s a Class 3 bike which can go up to 28mph. In Europe, most are limited to 15mph due to local laws.
Rugged Components
On many electric bikes, you get good components, but on the Eclipse, they have made it a little more focused on adventure riding. Larger tires for comfort, grip, and ability. Suspension to soak up the bumpy roads, and fenders and lighting for bad weather and poor conditions. A great feature of the C380 HMB is the 4-piston brakes.

You are kept more upright and in a position where the handlebars are easy to move around quickly when required. Are The Components Good On The Eclipse?
E-Bike companies love making savings, and some do cut corners. You might find bikes with amazing, powerful motors and batteries but terrible brakes, or great gearing and brakes but a junk motor and battery.
The thing about Gazelle is that they don’t cut any corners. They look at the bike as a whole and invest in every part. The gearing on both models is excellent. They use hydraulic disc brakes, typically choosing quality over price savings.
Is The Gazelle Eclipse Good Value For Money?
Coming in at between $6,000 and $6,500, the Eclipse is a premium electric bike. Yes, it’s a big investment, but if there’s something I have learned in my time with e-Bikes, it’s that you get what you pay for. Although expensive, it’s worth the money you are spending.
The Eclipse could be the perfect bike for you, but I would recommend taking a big think about the riding you might want to do and considering other options from Gazelle, such as the Ultimate or even the Medeo, because they offer something similar at a lower price.
