Velotric Breeze 1 E-Bike Review

The Breeze 1 is Velotric’s lightweight step-thru cruiser, ideal for commuting and casual weekend rides. It is designed to be comfortable and easy to use, rather than taking you over mountain passes. Its low standover height and swept-back handlebars make it a good fit for smaller riders or anyone easing back into cycling.

The first thing you notice on the Breeze 1 is how little it feels like a 750W e-Bike. At 48 lbs, it turns easily and rides closer to a regular bike than something with a heavy-duty motor.

Power delivery feels pretty natural, and one of the interesting things about this bike is that you can choose between different sensor modes. Torque sensor mode adjusts assistance based on how hard you're pedaling, which feels closer to riding a regular bike, but with some help. Switch to cadence mode with a long press of the display button, and the motor responds the moment you start pedaling. That's better suited to a relaxed ride, and it makes it easy to set off from a standstill.

You get three riding modes, Eco, Trail, and Boost, each of which has five pedal assist levels, so there's quite a range between barely-there assistance and enough grunt to make hills effortless. You can unlock Class 3 speed in the Velotric app, which raises the top assisted speed to 28 mph, though it's worth confirming local e-Bike laws allow it before you set off.

The swept-back Dutch-style bars and upright seating position are what set the Breeze 1 apart as a cruiser. This riding position keeps pressure off your wrists and lower back on longer rides, and the adjustable stem lets you fine-tune reach without swapping parts.

However, you need to know that the Breeze 1 has no suspension at all, front or rear. Instead, it uses wider tires that soak up some of the small stuff, but cracked pavement, tree roots, and rough trail sections come through more than they would on a bike with even basic suspension. A suspension seatpost is available as an accessory, which you might want to get to make the ride more agreeable.

At 48 lbs, the Breeze 1 is easy to live with. It's light enough that smaller riders, seniors, and anyone without much upper body strength can lift it up stairs, over a curb, or into a car trunk without help.

No included rack or fenders. Both are available separately, but at this price, several competing bikes include them as standard.

Real-world range falls short of expectations. Several owners have reported getting closer to 30-60 miles in Eco mode, instead of the full claimed 70, but range depends on a lot of factors.

Apple Find My only. Android riders don't get the same built-in tracking security that iPhone owners do.

No suspension anywhere. Great for weight and efficiency, less great for rough pavement or trail riding.

The Velotric Discover 3 is more comfortable thanks to its added suspension. So it's a good option if the Breeze 1's rigid ride feels like too much.

A lightweight cruiser like the Breeze 1 tends to see gentler use than a daily workhorse commuter, which makes the pre-owned market a good option.
