Trek Launches New, Super-Light Domane+ E-Bike

The Domane+ SL weighs as little as 24.25 lbs in its lightest configuration, which Trek says makes it the lightest e-Bike the company has ever built. That’s a properly low number for an electric road bike, and it comes from an all-carbon frame combined with a small, lightweight motor instead of the heavier mid-drive and battery combinations found on most e-Bikes.

Trek has given the Domane+SL endurance geometry, meaning you sit in a more relaxed riding position for long days in the saddle instead of an aggressive, race-focused one. That riding position complements the electric assistance too, which Trek says is for an occasional boost for climbs and getting up to speed, not something you’re meant to rely on for the whole ride.

Power comes from a 200W TQ HPR40 mid-drive motor, with 40Nm of torque. It is small and quiet compared to the more powerful motors typically found on cargo bikes or e-MTBs. The top assisted speed is 28 mph, putting it in Class 3 territory, and there’s no throttle.

The standard battery is 360Wh, which Trek rates for up to 70 miles. If you go through Trek’s Project One customization program, you can choose a larger 580Wh battery instead, giving you a claimed range of up to 115 miles. A separate range extender is also available, adding another 160Wh from a bottle-cage mount for anyone who wants extra range without committing to the bigger battery outright.

The Domane+ SL comes with 35mm tires as standard, but there’s clearance for up to 40mm if you want wider tires for more cushioning or a bit of gravel capability. The carbon frame looks clean thanks to full internal cable routing. It also has mounts for two water bottles, fenders, and extra mounts on the top tube for a frame bag.

You can choose from four spec levels. The top-end model has SRAM Red AXS with wireless shifting, while the entry-level bike uses SRAM Rival AXS. Prices range from $6,500 to $12,000 before any Project One customization, which lets you adjust the spec and add a custom paint job on top of the base price.

Trek also announced the Inbound+, a city bike with a Bosch Hub Line motor rated at 250W and 45Nm of torque, with a removable battery available in 360Wh or 600Wh. Buyers can choose between an 8- or 10-speed Shimano chain drivetrain or a single-speed belt drive with an internally geared hub, a tempting option if you want something super low-maintenance.

It comes with a cargo rack that can carry up to 60 lbs, in both high-step and step-through frames, and weighs between 45 and 50 lbs depending on the spec you choose. The catch is that Trek hasn’t announced the Inbound+ for the US market, so for now it’s only confirmed for the UK and Europe.

If the Inbound+'s belt-drive, low-maintenance approach appeals to you, Trek already sells a similar electric city bike in the US. The Charter+, launched earlier this year, uses a Gates belt drive with a Shimano Nexus internally geared hub and Bosch’s automatic shifting, so you set your preferred cadence once, and the bike handles the rest. It comes in two US models: the Charter+ 4S, with a 540Wh battery rated for up to 45 miles, and the Charter+ 5S, with an 800Wh battery rated for up to 68 miles.

Neither the Domane+ SL nor the Inbound+ is available on Upway yet, since both are brand-new launches straight from Trek. That said, Trek has one of the largest certified pre-owned selections on Upway, covering everything from commuters like the Allant+ to road and mountain bikes, all inspected before they’re listed.
