Super73 RX E-Bike Review

The RX sits at the top of Super73's original lineup, above the S-series, with full suspension, unlike most of the other models. It comes as a Class 2 electric bike, so throttle and pedal assistance are both limited to 20 mph. From there, you can switch to Class 1, Class 3, or an unrestricted Unlimited Mode through the Super73 app. This makes it versatile enough to ride it in various places where you might come across different e-Bike laws.

Suspension is the main thing that sets the RX apart from the rest of the Super73 lineup. The inverted coil-spring fork up front and the piggyback shock on the rear can both be adjusted for preload, compression, and rebound, so you can tune the ride to your weight instead of using a single fixed setting. The 20-inch wheels are small enough that potholes and bumps hit a little harder than they would on bigger wheels, but the suspension makes up for most of that.

You also get Unlimited Mode, which can get you over 30 mph. That mode is meant for private land, not the street, so keep it there.

The 4-piston hydraulic brakes use rotors noticeably thicker than those on a normal bike to handle repeated hard stops without fading.

The Super73 app can also give you turn-by-turn directions right on the bike's display, and it pushes firmware updates wirelessly, so you're not stuck making a trip to the shop every time something needs updating.

The hub motor is internally geared and brushless, and it puts out up to 2,000W of peak power in Unlimited Mode. In the default Class 2 setting, it stays well under that ceiling, keeping it street-legal.

The 960Wh battery was one of the biggest in its category when the RX launched. Super73 quotes 40-plus miles on throttle alone in Class 2, and 75-plus miles if you're pedaling gently in Eco mode. Your actual range will depend on your weight, the terrain, and how much power you use along the way, so expect something closer to the lower figure most of the time. Good electric bike battery charging habits also make a noticeable difference to how well the battery holds its capacity over the years.

There's no USB port on the bike itself, which is a little annoying given how much of the RX runs through the app. Bringing a backup battery for your phone isn't a bad idea.

This bike is heavy, and you'll feel it if the battery dies. At 82 to 84 lbs, pedaling the RX home with no power left is hard work, more so if there's any kind of hill involved.

If you want the lightest e-Bike possible, or need a reliable way to pedal home with a dead battery, consider one of Super73's lighter models instead.

The Super73 S2 (an Upway best-seller!) gives up full suspension for a front-only build, but it's lighter and cheaper for it. Worth a look if you don't need everything the RX offers.
