What’s The History Behind Scott And Cube?

The histories of Scott and Cube are very different, and they have really shaped these brands over the years. Scott was founded in 1958 and started in the US before becoming a Swiss-based brand. The main focus and ethos have always been on performance and innovation.

One of my favorite bikes Scott has ever made was the Plasma TT bike. When I was working at a bike shop, it was my dream bike. Sharp lines, perfect aerodynamics, and it looked like it was alien technology. They have always gone above and beyond, and I love that.

Cube was founded in 1993 in Germany. It wasn’t about new technology and innovation. It was more about making the sport much more accessible with proven designs and great components. They became one of the biggest cycling brands by offering excellent performance at affordable prices.

What About The Performance And Fit?

The differences really start to show between Scott and Cube in terms of performance and fit. If money were no object and I were planning on racing, I would be on a Scott. They are made to be a little sportier and more aggressive for that aero fit.

If I were planning on long-distance riding and more day-to-day stuff, then I'd be on a Cube. Cubes generally feature a more relaxed geometry and are designed with simpler forms to be used by more people. Scott's more about speed when Cube is about comfort.

Who Focuses More On Innovation? Scott Or Cube?

When it comes to innovation, Scott is incredible. They always have been. Trying new designs, bringing in new technology, having an obsession with lightweight bikes such as the 5.9kg Scott Addict and the CR1 frame under 1kg.

Cube doesn’t really do this. They focus more on proven designs, reduce their research and design budget, and invest more in components. It doesn’t mean they are bad bikes, just stick to what’s good and pick up technology a little later than others.

Who Uses Better Components?

Both brands offer different levels of components depending on your budget. In general, Cube favors more basic frames and better components. They use top-tier brands such as Shimano and Bosch motors, and sometimes Shimano. Scott uses a TQ motor alongside Bosch and Shimano for its incredible lightweight.

Who’s Better For Pricing, Scott Or Cube?

For many people, this is the biggest factor. Scott bikes are a premium brand; they are not the cheapest you will come across, but they are good value. Cubes are very hard to beat when it comes to value for money.

It can be challenging to determine which brand is better priced, since both offer different levels of performance. The way I have always seen it between Scott and Cube is that if you were to take like-for-like bikes with the same components and frame materials, you would save money buying a Cube.

Cube focuses on great value for money and saves by doing less innovation than Scott, and they pass those savings on to the end user. Scott often brings new technology to the table, but you pay for it indirectly.
