The flower petals are blooming and your powered pedal assist is zooming. The spring riding season has arrived and there’s no better time to finally buy that e-Bike you’ve been dreaming about in the dead of winter.

Now, of course, there’s no one type of e-Bike that’s best for spring riding, so I had to get creative with my picks and the reasons why they made the cut. I’ve chosen a handful of excellent models from various categories so you can find out what is the best electric bike for this time of year, or at least get inspired.

Upway’s Best E-Bikes for the Spring Season

Gazelle Medeo T9

Spring has sprung, the flowers are blooming, and this may just be the perfect picnic-going electric bike out there. The Medeo T9 from Dutch brand Gazelle is an elegant electric city bike with a smart, user-friendly design that’s plenty chic for the city. The battery placement within the rear rack allows for slimmer frame tubing, which looks great and doesn’t disturb the weight distribution very much due to the central, mid-drive motor.

Here at Upway, we’re big fans of Gazelle e-Bikes because of their well-designed features that riders love, including the cargo rack, fenders, integrated wheel lock, and premium Bosch motor. The Active Line Plus motor assists up to 20 mph and is powered by a 400Wh battery. I wouldn’t call this model an electric cruiser bike due to its sportier flair, but it combines elegance with comfort.

Slap some panniers on the rack and you’ll effectively camouflage the battery— people won’t even know you’re riding an e-Bike. The front suspension fork takes the sting out of uneven roads, too. This affordable electric bike is for cafe stops, picnics in the park, and bopping between all those wonderful springtime events around the city.

Scott Patron eRIDE 920

If you’ve been waiting for winter to end and are itching to hit the trails, the Scott Patron eRIDE 920 is an excellent full suspension e-MTB. The stealthy alloy frame boasts a unique look and cleverly hides the large 750Wh battery while staying impressively slim. This hard-hitting model is powered by a Bosch Performance Line CX motor with 85 Nm of torque and assistance up to 20 mph, perfect for e-Bike-allowed mountain bike trails. The RockShox Domain fork and FOX Float X shock offer the best of both worlds.

I just swung by my local bike shop the other day and learned that the mechanic has been waiting to take his new electric mountain bike out for its first big springtime rides. We’ve had a straight month of rain recently, and he didn’t want to gunk it up with mud on its maiden voyage— call it vain, but now he’s got freshly green trails (with slightly less mud) to explore! Don’t put off mountain biking this spring and see your favorite routes in a whole new way with the Scott Patron eRIDE 920.

Specialized Turbo Tero 3.0

Specialized Turbo Tero 3.0 electric hardtail

If you don’t know where to start this spring, you can trust an Upway best-seller: the Specialized Turbo Tero 3.0. This hardtail e-MTB is one of the most versatile machines out there and well-loved by mountain bikers, recreational riders, and even commuters. There’s enough travel to take it out on the trails while still being efficient and cushy on smoother roads.

The Turbo Tero gets its boost from a custom-built Specialized 2.0E mid-drive motor that, unlike the other models on this springtime list, can assist up to 28 mph. This Class 3 e-Bike has the extra pace to keep up in fast-moving traffic and zoom along wide open trails, but remember that Class 3 models are often prohibited from mountain biking trails. Upway’s got these bad boys available at a deep discount just in time for spring and summer riding!
