The nearby Newport Beach area offers a range of beginner and family-friendly electric bike trails that cater to a range of abilities and preferences.

Easy accessible from Newport Beach, the Back Bay Bike Trail is one of the best electric bike trails in Santa Ana for families. It’s classified as easy by locals, being flat and mostly paved. There are plenty of educational attractions to be taken in on route, including the Back Bay Science Centre and the Mary Muth Interpretive Center. The Back Bay loop takes you past the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina, which is a great end-of-ride family entertainment destination.

Situated in Crystal State Park, this 8-mile route comes with 1119 ft elevation gain on rugged dirt and rocky terrain and will suit Class 1 and Class 2 e-Bikes. Walkers and trail runners access this route, but trail descriptions indicate that it’s very wide. Featuring steep ascents and descents, this e-Bike trail is one for skilled mountain bikers.

Easily accessible from Santa Ana is the Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, an e-Biker's haven which offers 4,500 acres of wilderness and natural open space and more than 30 miles of official trails. These are punchy, dirt and rock trails suitable for experienced mountain bike riders, featuring significant elevation gain. Best-rated e-bike trails include the Mathis Canyon and Car Wreck Loop Trail, the Rock-It Loop Trail, and the Cave Rock via the Aliso Creek Bikeway and Aliso Creek. The Wood Canyon loop gives you access to the ‘Top of the World’ viewpoint, where you have panoramic views of Laguna Canyon, the Pacific Ocean, and Catalina Island.

Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park is an 8000-acre protected wilderness preserve which sits in the river terraces and sandstone canyons in the shadow of the Santa Ana Mountains. This park has an abundance of bike trails more suitable for adventurous e-mountain bike riders with a passion for remote outdoor experiences. One of the best trails in this park is the Bell Canyon, Oso, San Juan Creek Loop, which is a combination of singletrack, dirt roads, and paved surface. It's a 15-mile loop with 470 miles of elevation gain and excellent views on the west side, where it can be quite exposed to the sun. If you want an introduction to wilderness riding, this e-Bike trail is for you.

If you are looking for distance, then at 60 miles, the Santa Ana River Trail Bikeway is ideal, which runs through Southern California alongside the Santa Ana River in two sections. The northern section starts in San Bernardino and passes through Riverside County. After a 12-mile gap, the southern section starts on Green River Rd, taking you near several Orange County parks, including Yorba Park, Moon Park, and past the Angels Stadium. This scenic route is abundant with wildlife and has well-maintained paths.
