2025 E-Bike Trends: What Every Rider Needs to Know

Different e-Bike models are really taking off for all sorts of reasons. In the U.S. and worldwide, city commuters are leading the pack, grabbing about 82% of the e-Bike market share in 2024, according to Mordor Intelligence. 

With more people living in cities and better bike paths popping up, these urban e-Bikes are making commuting a breeze. Plus, they’re perfect for zipping through traffic and can be easily folded and stashed away at the office. In 2025, there is little doubt that they will continue to be the most popular category of e-Bike out there.

Then there’s the trekking segment. This includes both mountain and road bikes, the bikes for that weekend warrior ride or that unwind, after-work ride. While not the biggest, this is the fastest-growing category by far.

Mountain bikes, in particular, are driving demand. The latest e-MTB models are turning the steep, inaccessible trails into favorite routes and in 2025 the bikes will continue to let riders pedal even longer and cover even more terrain. They’re getting lighter and give new and aging riders a way to keep pace. 

In fact, on the whole, the global mountain e-Bikes market size was valued at nearly $8.08 billion in 2024 and is estimated to total more than $13.88 billion by 2030, according to Grand View Research.

Finally, the market is showing an uptick in cargo/utility e-Bikes. These are making waves, especially for deliveries in busy cities. As businesses look for greener and cheaper delivery options, these e-Bikes are becoming a popular choice. They’re cost-effective compared to gas-powered vehicles and perfect for maneuvering through tight urban spaces. With the increase in e-commerce and a focus on sustainable logistics, cargo bikes are a no-brainer.
