Gazelle Medeo Review: The E-Bike Built For Real Life

Written by: Robbie Ferri | June 6, 2026 Time to read 6 min

The Dutch have been quietly winning at cycling for decades. While the rest of us argue about traffic, parking, and fuel prices, they've simply been riding bikes everywhere and wondering what all the fuss is about. The Gazelle Medeo feels like a glimpse into that world.

There’s no denying the Dutch just get bikes so much better than the rest of the world. Not only am I saying this in arrogance because I was born in Holland myself, but also because they have excellent cycling infrastructure and incredible bike brands.

I’m very lucky to get to tell you about the Gazelle Medeo in this article. It’s a bike I have always personally really liked, and there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye. I am going to tell you everything you need to know about the Gazelle Medeo so you can decide if it’s right for you.

What Are Gazelle E-Bikes?

Gazelle has been around since 1892 and has spent nearly 130 years perfecting bikes. They are a household name in the bike industry and are based in the Netherlands. Gazelle is not a name you will hear in the pro peloton because that is not their focus.

They are more about traditional bikes and lifestyle bikes, not racing bikes— unless it's racing other parents on the way to drop the kids off at school or do the shopping. They are excellent in terms of comfort, reliability, and practicality.

They make many different types of bikes, including commuter, cargo, urban, trekking, and utility models. Gazelle is excellent at keeping it simple and perfecting models. They are not trying to reinvent the wheel. They are just making great bikes.

The Gazelle Medeo T9 or T10?

There are currently two models available. You have the Medeo T9 and the T10. The T9 is a more basic model, while the T10 comes with higher specifications. If you are just looking for short commutes or are on a budget, the T9 is ideal. If you are looking for big adventures and some rough terrain, the T10 is worth the extra money.

There’s a big difference in the bikes' designs between the models. The T9 has an external battery on the downtube, while the T10 has an integrated battery. I'm a huge fan of the integrated battery.

What Is The Gazelle Medeo Designed For?

The Gazelle Medeo is designed for a bit of everything. It’s perfect as a commuter bike in a city, thanks to its rear rack, lighting, and smooth motor. It can also hit light trails and do some adventure riding in the forest or on your local cycle trails.

It’s designed for a bit of everything. It’s a real jack-of-all-trades bike which can be used for anything from work to recreational cycling, and in my opinion that’s what makes it such a great tool to have.

For me, it’s an ideal bike to have in your life, whatever you want it to be. It does have limits, like you won't see it in the Tour de France or on an epic downhill steep run, but apart from that, it ticks most of the other boxes.

Does The Gazelle Medeo Have A Good Motor And Battery?

When Gazelle does something, they do it right. They use Bosch motors, which are arguably among the best motor and battery brands for bikes. They are smooth and give the bike a very natural feel. The specifications are good, with the T9 offering a 50 Nm motor and the T10 a 75 Nm motor.

They have a battery capacity of around 500 Wh. They claim to give 95 miles of range, which is probably in ideal conditions. I'd probably say 70 at most would be more accurate for normal day-to-day riding. It’s got a top speed of 20 miles per hour and works on a pedal-assist system. This means the motor will only engage when you are pedaling.

Are the Mechanical Components Good?

One of the biggest mistakes I see e-Bike brands make is putting all the cost of a bike into the motor and battery, while scrimping on the other components. That’s not the Gazelle way, and they offer some good stuff around a brilliant motor system.

You get hydraulic disc brakes for stopping, Shimano 9- or 10-speed groupsets for better gearing, and a suspension fork to improve overall ride quality and smooth out the road. There’s a lot of value in getting the basic components right, and Gazelle does that well.

Are Gazelle Bikes Worth The Money?

The T9 comes in at around $3,000, while the T10 comes in at around $4,000. Yes, they are not cheap bikes. You are paying for high-quality components that will last, an excellent design, and a bike that, if treated well, will last for years.

I personally think they are just amazing value for money. As someone who has been in the bike industry a very long time, you really do get what you pay for, and if you invest a little more, it often goes a very long way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Gazelle Medeo good for commuting?

In fact, that's where it shines the most. One of the most popular models is the Medeo T9 City. The comfortable riding position, reliable Bosch Active Line motor system, and practical design make it an excellent commuter bike.

How far can the Gazelle Medeo go on a charge?

Well, Gazelle says 90 miles is doable, but I feel that is just perfect conditions and a bit overestimated compared to real-world riding. I would say 70 miles on low assistance is realistic. Electric bike ranges are often a little wild on spec sheets.
Is the Gazelle Medeo good for hills?
Yes, particularly the T10. The Bosch Performance Line motor provides plenty of assistance on climbs, making hilly routes much more enjoyable. The Performance Line speed is limited, but the torque is high for a city bike.

Key Takeaways

  1. The Gazelle Medeo: It is one of the most comfortable and practical electric bicycles available today.
  2. Gazelle's Dutch heritage: Offers decades of bicycle manufacturing experience, which is evident throughout the bike's design.
  3. The T9: Perfect for leisure riding and everyday commuting, while the T10 offers more power for hills and longer rides.
