Tom is a Brit living in the French Alps. When he's not creating written and video content for various brands, he's either pedalling or snowboarding around his local mountains. E-Bikes have unlocked the potential for Tom to explore Alpine terrain and get away from the crowded bike parks. He is only too keen to share his knowledge and experience with other riders.

YT Industries has been in the mountain bike industry for a long time now. It’s known for building excellent high-end mountain bikes and a direct-to-consumer model. They got into the electric mountain bike game a few years ago and have incorporated their expertise in ride quality, modern geometry, and trail capability.

In this guide, I’ll go into what YT electric bikes are, why riders choose them, and how the different models fit into YT’s e-MTB lineup.

What are YT electric bikes?

YT Industries is a German bicycle brand founded in 2008, originally recognized for downhill and enduro mountain bikes. They have seen great success on the mountain bike World Cup circuit, with big-name riders from the YT Mob team swinging a leg over a YT bike.

YT’s electric bikes are strictly e-MTBs; the brand does not offer commuter, cargo, or lifestyle models. These performance bikes feature suspension to take heavy hits, geometry, and components purpose-built for trails, technical terrain, and bike parks.

Why ride YT e-Bikes?

Riders are drawn to YT e-Bikes for their high performance and direct-to-consumer pricing model. By selling bikes directly rather than through traditional retail networks, YT electric mountain bikes compete within the high-end market, although they are not cheap. YT’s e-MTBs have long, slack, stable geometry and suspension setups to confidently tackle techy terrain.

YT Decoy lineup and categories

YT’s electric mountain bike is called the “Decoy.” It comes in multiple configurations to suit different riders' styles and budgets. Each model differs in power delivery, wheel setup, and overall ride feel.

YT Decoy MX

The Decoy has a mixed-wheel setup; the MX designation refers to a combination of a 29” wheel on the front and a 27.5” on the back (also known as a mullet wheel configuration). The idea behind this is to give you front-end stability and the ability to roll over rough ground more easily, while having rear-end agility. This model is aimed at aggressive trail and enduro riding, where confident descending and technical handling are priorities. Here are the different build levels available:

  • Decoy MX Core 1 – entry-level build
  • Decoy MX Core 2 – mid-range build
  • Decoy MX Core 3 – higher-spec build
  • Decoy MX Core 4 – top-tier build

YT Bikes has also released limited or special editions of the Decoy MX under the Uncaged name in certain years, but availability varies by region and season.

YT Decoy SN

The Decoy SN gives you a lighter-assist option and 29” wheels front and back. It is designed to deliver a more natural ride feel, emphasizing efficiency and handling. This version appeals to riders who want electric assistance for longer rides and sustained climbs while keeping the character of a traditional mountain bike.

The SN is available in 3 different specs:

  • Decoy SN Core 2 – base build for the SN platform
  • Decoy SN Core 3 – mid-range build
  • Decoy SN Core 4 – top-tier build

As with the MX models, all SN versions share the same frame and ride concept, with differences coming from suspension, drivetrain, and finishing components.

Choosing between Decoy models

Choosing between Decoy versions really depends on what you want. The Decoy MX delivers power and downhill capability for demanding terrain, while the Decoy SN favors a lighter, more subtle assist experience for trail-oriented riding.
