They say the sequel can never be as good as the original, but Upway US’ impressive second year delivered big-time growth and the launch of our Los Angeles UpCenter! E-Bike sales more than doubled in 2024 compared to our first year in the US market and we plan to duplicate that performance this year. Join me in celebration of Upway US’ second anniversary as I reflect on our most important milestones and sales highlights to date.

Upway US turns two!

Time flies when you’re having fun, and goes even faster when you’re selling speedy electric bikes. This March marks the second anniversary of Upway’s launch in the US market, expanding on the company’s founding back in 2021 in Paris, France.

It’s been an action-packed two years filled with hard work, successful investment campaigns, and rapidly growing sales in the US. This birthday blog is a great moment to pause and reflect, but the wheels keep turning at Upway US’ pair of UpCenters in New York City and— recently launched— Los Angeles!

Why the LA UpCenter launch is so exciting

Perhaps the most electrifying news this year is the opening of our UpCenter in Los Angeles, marking Upway’s official arrival to the West Coast. This new California base of operations unlocks a whole new world of possibilities and growth potential, stretching Upway’s presence from coast to coast.

California is a huge US market (our largest in terms of both sales and value, actually) and the new UpCenter enables us to build stronger relationships with our West Coast partners. Leading brands like Aventon, Super73, and Specialized are all based in California as well as important retail partners like Mike’s Bikes, e-Ryde LA, and The New Wheel. Having team members on the ground in the Golden State will make for even closer connections with customers and partners.

The LA UpCenter also facilitates better logistics and buying experiences for our customers. A local presence in the state means faster delivery, free pick-up for trade-ins, and even more affordable prices for riders. For example, we’ve already launched complementary unboxed delivery and free pick-up for sellers in California!

California and the Los Angeles area are hotspots for e-Bike ridership and that trend is set to continue. The state has recently implemented its e-Bike incentive program (of which Upway is a proud partner) and continues to improve cycling infrastructure across the state.

The upcoming 2028 Olympic Games around Los Angeles also provide an exciting future regarding urban mobility and sustainable transportation solutions. Los Angeles is Upway’s most recent expansion and we’re so happy to call it home.

Performance highlights & successes

Back in the spring of 2023, Upway started strong in the US market and it’s been an electric journey since then. We’ve processed more than 10,000 electric bikes since our launch and, as mentioned, sales more than doubled in 2024 compared to 2023 numbers.

Upway raised more than $65 million from major investors to continue fueling our growth and expansion, including the new UpCenter in Los Angeles. At the moment, we are partnering with more than 500 retailers participating in our trade-in program in the US.

Another key highlight is the huge discounts for our customers. We’ve run the numbers and, on average, e-Bike buyers enjoy more than a 40% discount compared to retail prices, equating to savings of more than $1,000! And our biggest deals boast savings of up to 60% so you can get high-quality electric bikes from the top brands for less.

Looking ahead & Upway’s goals

One of Upway’s core cultural principles is that “We never settle”, so you can expect even more from Upway US in 2025 and beyond.

Right now, we are continuing to develop the LA UpCenter after its recent launch and are excited to leverage these resources for larger inventory, faster shipping, and additional partnerships. We are planning to double the size of our US team this year to achieve our ambitious US goals. The US market is a priority in our global strategy and the wheels are already rolling to make 2025 the best year yet!
