Wondering how to charge electric bike batteries? Plug it in, wait for the green light to indicate full charge, and you’re ready to roll with maximum juice.

Charging off vs. on the bike

Aventon electric bike owners can charge their bikes with the battery still on the bike or with the battery removed. If you leave your bike in a spot that’s near a power outlet, it may be easy to simply plug it in after you come in for a ride and unplug it before you take it out again.

Riders can also pop the battery out with the turn of a key and take it with them inside the house for easy charging. This method also ensures the battery stays at an ideal temperature for optimal performance and range. While there are some great models with fully integrated (non-removable) batteries, I still think having a removable battery is the way to go.

How to charge the battery on the bike?

How does the Glade jingle go? Plug it in, plug it in. It’s as easy as that to charge your Aventon electric bike when you leave the battery in the bike.

- Find the charging port that’s located somewhere along the downtube (it may be covered by a rubber flap)
- Insert the charging cable.
- Plug the power side of the charger into a wall outlet.

The converter (that big black block in the middle of the long charger) has a light on it that will turn from red to green when the bike is fully charged. How long this takes will depend on how much energy the battery has, the size of your battery, and the amp-hours rating of the charger.

It can be more convenient to remove the battery from the bike and charge it away from the bike. Maybe you leave your hybrid e-Bike in a shed with no outlets or you want to keep the expensive battery away from any prying eyes. Whatever your reason, it can come in handy to have the option of having a removable battery. One of the many reasons to buy an Aventon e-Bike is that all of the brand’s models have removable batteries.

- Turn the key to release the battery from its locked position
- Remove the battery
- Plug the charger into the battery

Like before, the light on the charger will turn green when the battery reaches full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to charge an Aventon e-Bike?

The exact time will depend on the remaining charge and the size of the battery, but most Aventon e-Bikes will take between three and seven hours to fully charge.

Can the e-Bike withstand rain with the battery removed?

Aventon recommends covering the e-Bike since the terminal and battery ports will be exposed to rain. If it’s raining outside, it’s a good idea to keep the battery installed and ride it that way.
