If you come to New York, there’s a strong likelihood that you want to do things that are quintessentially New York. So we are going to focus on e-Bike trails that deliver big on New York experiences.
Central Park Loop
At 843 acres, the iconic Central Park offers an extensive set of bike trails for e-Bike riders of all levels, along with an on-site bike rental shop. East River Greenway Trail
This trail connects with the Hudson River Greenway Trail at the Lower Manhattan end of the trail at Battery Park and is about 9 miles in length. It’s fully paved and again perfect for city bikes, cargo bikes, and Class 1 e-Bikes and Class 2 e-Bikes. This route provides panoramic views of the East River, the Manhattan Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. You can access the Brooklyn Bridge Bicycle Path to cross the river to visit the Brooklyn Bridge Park, which has extensive bicycle trails. Surface is a mix of paved and unpaved surfaces, but perfect for e-Bikes, all types of cargo bikes, and relaxed-riding city bikes. Such is the nature of the area that there are a few steep inclines that may come as a surprise, but are perfectly achievable with the help of some e-bike pedal assist!
Governor’s Island Trail: 7-mile loop
Accessible by ferry, Governor’s Island is 172 acres in size and has an extensive network of bike paths and car-free zones, making it a great destination for e-Bike riding. Just yards from the Ferry, is Blazing Saddles, a flexible bike rental shop offering over e-Bikes for rent, including cargo bikes, e-Bikes with child seats, electric city bikes, and more. As well as having an exceptional view of the Manhattan skyline, its key attractions include Fort Jay and Outlook Hill, but you will need to leave your bike to climb this, so ensure to bring a quality bike lock!
Empire State Trail: Long-distance e-Bike trail
This is no normal trail! Launched in 2017, the 750-mile Empire State Trail is an epic tour of the region, well-suited to a long-range electric bike. The trail takes on a journey through New York’s history, iconic places, and incredible landscapes. The route goes through New York City through the Hudson Valley, west to Buffalo along the Erie Canalway Trail, then North to Champlain Valley and the Adirondacks. This would, of course, be a multi-day ride requiring careful battery range planning and route planning. New York State has created an Empire State Trail Map to help with this.

Ellicottville Trail System
This is New York’s only IMBA Epic Trail system and offers over 31 miles of single-track in McCarty Hill State Forest, and is managed by the Western New York Mountain Biking Association. It contains steep climbs and descents, and many technical trails with rock and roots, perfect for a full suspension electric bike. Trail maps are recommended and are available on site at the Bike and Bean Shop.
Glacier Ridge Long Island
The Glacier Ridge Mountain Bike Trail System is located on Long Island and is managed by the Concerned Long Island Mountain Bikers’ Club (CLIMB), who describe it as a 13-mile pump track.
