Located in the heart of Southern California, Riverside County offers a diverse and accessible bicycle network that caters to families, leisure riders, and more experienced mountain biking enthusiasts.

A key highlight is the Santa Ana River Trail, one of the longest e-Bike trails in the region. Running through the City of Riverside, this iconic trail offers a flat, well-maintained system that connects inland areas to the Pacific coast, making it ideal for both short rides and longer electric bike adventures.

Beyond the river trail system, Riverside County offers several highly recommended routes. Families and beginners can enjoy calm, scenic routes through parks, nature reserves, and historic areas, while more experienced riders can head towards nearby wilderness parks and mountain biking trail systems for faster descents and more technical terrain.

Whether you’re planning a relaxed day out on a cargo e-bike or looking for a more challenging off-road bike ride in or around Los Angeles County, Riverside offers a well-balanced mix of accessibility, scenery, and adventure. Be sure to familiarize yourself with California's various e-Bike classifications, as this may impact your route choice, and then enjoy the ride!

What Are The Best E-Bike Trails in Riverside for Mountain Bikers?

Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park

The Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park is home to some of the most exhilarating and challenging downhill mountain biking trails in Riverside County. Typically, unless stated otherwise by local park authorities, the US Parks Authority allows e-Bikes on designated bike trails in wilderness areas. However, e-Bikes and traditional bikes are not allowed to ride rogue single track in wilderness areas. Chickenhawk and Ammo Gully are two  popular designated trails in Sycamore Canyon.

Chickenhawk

Situated south of Alessandro Blvd, Chickenhawk is a very popular downhill mountain biking trail in Riverside. It's a singletrack trail best suited to mountain bikes, and e-Bikes with winter fat bike tires. It has a green difficulty rating and includes a moderate difficulty climb. It is about 1.6 km long with about 55 meters of elevation gain and descent mostly under 10% gradient.

Ammo Gully

This is another favourite mountain bike trail from Sycamore Canyon in Riverside. Like chickenhawk, Ammo Gully is suited to mountain bikes and e-Bikes, but you’re likely to share this trail with both hikers and trail runners. It’s considered an easy route again, but there's a short, steep section of around 17% gradient to watch out for. It's a dusty, rocky, high-speed downhill singletrack that curves around the walls of the Gully.

Table Mountain Road East

Again, in easy reach of Riverside County, this 3-mile trail starts on the road just before Table Mountain at a conveniently located parking spot. The Table Mountain Road East Trail has the unique quality of being both family-friendly and challenging. The route is mostly wide and paved but has an average gradient of 4% and max grade of 15%, according to trail maps. It is marked easy/intermediate on the single track scale, and so it would ideally suit children of 10+ years with advanced e-Bike handling skills.

While most of the route is paved, there are multiple singletrack dirt roads connecting to the route for more challenging mountain biking. This is an uphill route with significant elevation gain at the end, which rewards you with amazing views of Mount Baden Powell, the San Gabrielle Mountains, and the Table Mountain Observatory.

What Are The Best E-Bike Trails in Riverside for Families?

The following bike lanes are Class I Bikeways that offer flat, mostly paved surfaces and scenic routes

Gage Canal Trail

The Gage Canal Trail is a historic trail running from Arlington Ave to the California Citrus State Historic Park and back. It follows the historic Gage Canal, passing through residential areas, a picturesque orange grove nursery, and there are a variety of farm animals on route. This is a charming e-bike trail that is easy, wide, and flat, suitable for Class 1 and Class 2 electric bikes and cargo bikes with child seats. This compact dirt bike lane is a calm route popular with pedestrians, so a bike bell will be useful.

Cocomaricopa Trail

The Cocomaricopa Trail is a family-friendly recreational trail that runs through the San Timoteo Nature Sanctuary alongside the San Timoteo Creek. Easily accessible from Riverside County, this 2.2-mile singletrack trail has gentle slopes averaging 1% according to published trail maps, so there is limited elevation gain. Look out for Redlands Conservancy Outdoor Ambassadors who are keen to promote the local woodlands and wildlife to visitors to Southern California. Situated in San Bernardino, this bike lane is easily accessible from Riverside County and provides visitors with a gentle introduction to wilderness riding. These bike lanes are probably more suited to Class 1 e-Bikes.

Lake Perris Bike Path East

At 6 miles, this is still a short, family-friendly Class 1 electric bike trail. This is a mostly paved bike path that runs around Lake Perris in the Lake Perris State Recreation Area in San Bernardino. Again, easily accessible from Riverside County with ample parking, this makes a wonderful e-biking excursion or away-day in Southern California. This can easily be turned into a multi-day electric bike trip, as there is a campsite on Bernasconi Road. Here, you can extend the ride taking the Lake Perris Bike Path Dirt Connector path over a quite steep singletrack hill (which may need to be walked) to the Lake Perris Bike Path West.
