Electric bikes are already a major upgrade to standard bicycles, but the sky’s the limit when it comes to tricking out your boosted bike. Some accessories will make you go faster, some add comfort, and others simply aren’t worth the hassle. I’ll share my favorite e-Bike accessories that will greatly improve your ride. Warning: e-Bike addiction may occur.

E-Bike Upgrades for Comfort

1. Saddle up(grade)

The saddle is one of three contact points on an e-Bike— pedals and handlebar grips are the other two points where your body meets the bike. And if your bum isn’t comfortable, you’re not going to be comfortable while out for a ride.

E-Bikes come with a stock saddle which is typically middle-of-the-road when it comes to size and shape. It may fit you well or it may not. If you notice soreness in your sit bones, consider upgrading your saddle for a world of difference.

2. Get a (better) grip

The grips that come standard on a bike almost always leave room for improvement. It’s one of the easiest and most affordable upgrades to make on a bike, especially given its comfort-boosting potential. I remember my mom was struggling with hand fatigue and wrist pain on your e-Bike but selecting the right pair of ergonomic grips solved the problem by allowing her to distribute more weight on her palms. It may work for you, too.

Looking for more than just accessories? Upway’s got you covered:

3. Suspension seatposts

Buying a suspension seatpost may not have been on your radar, but it can make a huge difference. There are tons of designs out there to fit your frame’s seatpost diameter and desired level of cushion. And I’m not just talking about a springy saddle. Modern suspension seatposts are better than ever and pleasantly take the sting out of uneven roads.

Upway has a huge selection of great e-Bike accessories to enhance your ride, including lights, baskets and bags, locks, and more. We specialize in e-Bikes at a big discount, whether you’re after a brand-new model or a used electric bike. All of our models are professionally inspected and reconditioned to ensure you’re getting the highest quality e-Bike possible, including a one-year warranty.

E-Bike Upgrades for Control

4. Tire choice

Tires aren’t a contact point with your body but rather the only contact point with the ground, making them a key factor for control. Upgrading your tires to ones made from a more supple rubber compound or with a better tread pattern can increase performance.

Wider tires hold more air and can be run at lower pressures, providing a cushier ride with more grip. If you frequently ride in the rain or snow, upgrade to winter tires with a heavier tread. For dry, smooth-surface riding, choose slick tires for a more efficient ride.

5. Take a look at mirrors

Mirror, mirror on the wall… what is the most useful accessory of them all?
Many e-Bike owners swear by riding with a mirror. Mirrors are especially useful when riding on busy bike paths or streets— you don’t want to be turning your head every second to check what’s behind you. And most people aren’t like owls that can twist their noggins around— mirrors limit the twisting and turning that your neck will be subjected to.

E-Bike Upgrades for Convenience

6. Add a bike bag

With the added power of an e-Bike you don’t have to worry about carrying extra weight, so feel free to load up a bag with ride essentials and delicious goodies. So many e-Bike models come with a rear rack so you’ll just have to purchase a bike bag. Certain designs hang onto or slide into the rear rack and others mount to different areas entirely. You’ll find that you’re much more prepared with tools, snacks, and other items you wouldn’t otherwise carry.

7. More lights, even if your bike comes with one

Most e-Bikes come with at least a front headlight that draws power from the battery, but they are typically on the weaker end. Purchase bright front and rear lights for enhanced visibility at night. E-Bike safety upgrades are some of the most worthwhile upgrades in my book.

8. Ring that bell

I recently added a bell to my bike and couldn’t be happier. I’m a late bloomer when it comes to bell-ringing on two wheels, although I did carry an effective referee whistle when I lived in Chicago (a story for another time). Electric bikes travel at faster speeds and you don’t want to silently sneak up on unsuspecting pedestrians and cyclists. Get that bell a-ringing to politely let people know you’re about to pass.

9. An extra battery

Consider buying an additional battery for your electric bike. This way, you can simply swap batteries and you’re up to full charge in mere seconds. You’ll increase your range and never be caught without charge again! Some models even have a spot to mount an extra battery or range-extender, typically in place of a water bottle. Buying an extra battery is an expensive upgrade, but could be well worth it.
